Forest Rogers

My goal is to create creatures with a dream-like logic and ‘truth’ to them. Attempting to get as close as I can to the central nature (archetype, perhaps) of a particular character or tale fascinates me. I’ll never get quite all the way ‘there,’ but I hope for a touch upon something universal. I use mixed media, including polymers, air-dry clays, washi papers, fabrics and gemstones. I gravitate toward mixed-media because one can create effects otherwise unattainable. It’d be mighty nice to add some bronze, however.

I have an eclectic—maybe weird—background, including an MFA in costume design from Carnegie-Mellon University, liturgical iconography and scientifically precise dino prototypes for the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. I’ve come by a long, odd path, and hope I may encourage others who arrive late at the door with hard-won offerings.
