IRIS COMPIET is an artist living and working in the Netherlands. She likes to work on projects ranging from picture books, illustrated novels to gallery art and even enjoys sculpting her own frames or bring her creatures to life in 3d. Creating a ‘sense of wonder’ is at the core of her work. Both in commissioned work as in non-commissioned work, storytelling is an essential part.
As an artist she strives to lure in the spectator, to make them feel a connection to the work and open a gateway to their imagination to ignite it even further. Drawing inspiration from European folklore, mythology, fairytales, ghost stories and anything from tombstones, Victorian photography to popular movies and music.
Recently she ran a very succesful Kickstarter for her book Faeries of the Faultlines, a book about which none other than Brian Froud has this to say:
"Iris Compiet’s work is an astonishing and masterful revelation of the Faery Realms. She is an artist who, with stunning alacrity reveals the fleeting personalities of the normally unseen."
