After receiving his BFA from The University of Calgary, Douglas Williamson has devoted himself to painting. Utilizing various approaches of both old and new masters to formulate his mark, there is hardly a day that goes by where he can’t be found in his studio. His subjects range from still life, landscape to figurative – each painting a dimensional story told through the facet of an object, or the face of a character.
He recently received a grant from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts to attend The Nerdrum School in Norway, where he studied with the world-renowned figurative painter Odd Nerdrum. The time spent with Odd reinforced Douglas’s commitment to philosophies of Kitsch and strengthened his desire to employ subtle narratives to his paintings. ~truth is often preached, but the eternal is rarely seen.
