Description
Something every artist who attempts to make a career from their work needs to learn (but is rarely given guidance on) is finding the balance of how much creativity to give to their commercial work and how much they need to keep for themselves. So many of us, once tossed into the "real world," end up putting every ounce of our creative energy into the task of making money, of pleasing corporations, of realizing other people's vision. This leads to a LOT of burnout.Striking the right balance is different for every artist. Some have found a way to marry their personal creative passion with the commercial organizations/fields they establish themselves in. Others choose to create a sharper divide- getting work in the visual arts but saving most of their creative energy for pursuing their own vision and stories. In the end it doesn't matter what that balance looks like. What matters is that it is achieved and we don't find ourselves pouring our hearts into a corporate void until there is nothing left to keep us going.
