Piggy is one of the most important characters in William Golding's Lord of the Flies. Intelligent, thoughtful, and practical, he often serves as the voice of reason among the stranded boys. While others are increasingly drawn to fear, violence, and chaos, Piggy continues to believe in order, cooperation, and civilized behavior.

Physically vulnerable because of his poor eyesight, weight, and asthma, Piggy is frequently mocked and bullied by the other boys.
