Rusalka is heavily inspired by the Pre-Raphaelites. The pose, subject, and lighting are my contemporary take on the Pre-Raphaelite movement. The subject, the rusalka, is a mythological creature from Slavic folklore. She appears near bodies of water as a beautiful woman who lures men to their deaths. In my version of the rusalka, she kills men because that's all she knows, and she collects the shiny objects that her victims leave behind. The rusalka is a femme fatale who does what she has to in order to survive.
