Unframed. Another image of a Lovecraft story about a musician who plays music to keep the cosmic horrors at bay. In the story, the instrument Zahn plays is a viol, or viola da gamba, not a violin, viola, or cello. It is an instrument from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries played with a bow, the palm of the bow hand facing up.
This painting was used as an illustration for the song Midnight on the album Close to Nearby by the progressive rock band Octarine Sky.
