Whimsy in Watercolor: The Art of Angel Dominguez

Exhibition Overview

Angel Dominguez (1953โ€“2021) was a renowned Spanish illustrator best known for his lavish, anthropomorphic animal illustrations and classic children’s literature editions. Based in Bilbao, he was a professional illustrator from 1971 until his death in 2021.

Dominguez’s artwork is often compared to masters of the Golden Age of Illustration, such as Arthur Rackham, Edmund Dulac, and William Heath Robinson. He specialized in detailed watercolor techniques, frequently blending naturalistic observations of wildlife with whimsical, storybook settings.
