Chris Achilleos was a British fantasy and science fiction artist internationally renowned for his dynamic and highly detailed paintings. Born in Cyprus, he moved to London as a child and studied at Hornsey College of Art before beginning his professional career in the early 1970s. Over the course of several decades, Chris became one of the most recognizable fantasy illustrators of his generation, producing iconic artwork for book covers, film projects, album covers, trading cards, posters, and publishing worldwide. He became particularly celebrated for his legendary Target Book covers for Doctor Who, which remain some of the most collected and recognizable science fiction book covers ever produced. Chris also achieved major international recognition for his work on the cult animated film Heavy Metal, for which he designed the iconic character Taarna and created promotional artwork for the film. Alongside his publishing work, he produced artwork for a number of music and rock-related projects, further cementing his reputation for dramatic fantasy imagery and powerful visual storytelling.
