This piece was created during a residency at Ponderosa Arts Center in Stolzenhagen, Germany. I was staying in a historical farmhouse with a wood stove, which I had to load with wood regularly to warm the building. This painting was exploring the mythological significance of this experience, and the ways in which our ability to manipulate fire differentiates humans from other living organisms.
