This painting was the cover artwork for the ninth and final book in the "Croyd Spacetime Maneuvers" series by Ian Wallace, which I painted for Daw Books in 1989. I was especially happy with the zig-zagging composition of the cover, which won compliments at a few sci-fi conventions. I was amused when the cover was selected for inclusion in British website "Good Show Sir!" a collection of history's worst science fiction covers. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! If you have access to X-Radiography you'll discover there was originally a completely different female figure on the throne. Initially I was inspired by a J.C. Leyendecker pose, but decided to repaint the figure with a different outfit, hairdo and face.
