Olivia Di Gregorio
Olivia Di Gregorio is an internationally exhibited and published new generation artist in Toronto, having graduated from OCAD University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Design in Illustration, and a minor in Drawing and Painting. Di Gregorio was selected as a finalist in the Beautiful Bizarre Magazine Art Prize in the Traditional Art category for 2021, and has exhibited at Modern Eden in San Francisco, and WOW X WOW Gallery based in the UK. Their work has also been published in Booooooom’s ‘Tomorrow’s Talent Vol.II’ curated art book, and featured in Supersonic Art.
After a year of working as a caretaker for a disabled loved one, Di Gregorio’s recent paintings have become representative of an instinctual desire for survival. They describe stories about survivors of abuse, seeking safe spaces, and modes of escapism within planes of individual solitudes.
Drawing upon mythology and folklore, with changelings and sprites for inspiration, her oil paintings are made to echo sentiments of healing while contributing to dialogues about mental health. These paintings often act as a visual escape communicating secrets, acting as a means of understanding difficult experiences, and depicting how they shape us within our formative years. Introducing both transformative elements and complexity within landscapes of a dreamworld.
