Description
This painting is of dusk, the magical time of day. A time for introspection, a time for thought and memory. High in the mountains one can find inspiration, a sense of freedom, feel and rejoice in the elements! In my painting clouds are symbols of the life force, the spiritual and mystery.A sacred building above the clouds. The whole village climbs steps, carved generations before, with lighted torches to set a central fire. Gathered around the warmth and glow of the fire they sing songs and watch the rising of the full moon. The moon - symbol of time and the greater universe.
At dusk, W.hen I was a child in Africa, the swallows would come out and swoop and dive around our yard as they chased down insects. I loved their forked tails and speed. Swallows and dusk are therefore synonymous to me. Birds are also symbolic of the spiritual and can be seen as emmisaries of the spiritual. Odin's ravens Huginn (thought) and Muninn (memory) are depicted.
The "Disk of the Heavens" she is holding is inspired by metal work of the bronze age c. 1300 BC and the sun, moon and the planets are symbolized on its surface.
