The spark for this one was the Russian folk tale “The Queen of Copper Mountain” and the song by Dolly Parton. I was so surprised to find one of Misty’s stories actually taking place in the States. I was able to find the few pictures of the actual Ducktown Copper Mine and use them in the illustration. Jolene is wearing a Russian sarafan under all those fire elementals and hair.
